KDP: 5 Questions Mitch McConnell Needs to Answer at Tonight’s Debate

Frankfort, KY — Tonight, Lt. Col. Amy McGrath and U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell will debate at 7 p.m. eastern on select Kentucky TV stations and CSPAN.

It may be the only time Kentuckians will hear directly from McConnell, who holds campaign events only on private property, refuses to have town halls, and never makes himself available to his constituents.

By contrast, McGrath has been holding public, socially distanced events for months and has committed to have several debates.

With our commonwealth and country stuck in crisis that has both financial and health ramifications, here are the five questions Mitch McConnell needs to answer for the benefit of all Kentuckians:

Recently, there were COVID-19 outbreaks both in Congress and in the White House. Why have you refused to start a testing and contract tracing program in the U.S. Senate even after criticizing the White House’s lax COVID-19 processes?

 For weeks you have refused to tell the public when you were last tested for COVID-19 and whether you tested positive or negative. You even went as far as to say it was “not necessary to answer those questions” and that “it doesn’t tell you anything.” The health of the Senate Majority leader is a matter of public interest. When was the last time you were tested for COVID 19 and what was the result of that test?

Amy McGrath has a plan for rebuilding Kentucky as we navigate the financial and public health crisis that is COVID-19. Do you have a plan for rebuilding Kentucky and if so why after 35 years in the Senate have we not heard about it?

Since it’s initial passage, you have voted for repeal of the Affordable Care Act numerous times, which would put Kentuckians with pre-existing conditions like having COVID-19, cancer or even pregnancy at risk of losing health insurance. Why do you continue to pursue policies that would result in hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians losing their health insurance??
