From the KDP: More Pressure Builds on Matt Bevin to Come Clean on His Secretive Out-of-State Travel on State Plane
KENTUCKY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
Frankfort, KY — Pressure is building on Matt Bevin to come clean and explain why he’s been using a taxpayer-funded state plane to travel across the country, after the governor told Kentucky taxpayers last week that it’s “none of their business.”
So far, Governor Bevin has declined to explain why he’s using the state plane for mysterious out-of-state trips to places including: Miami, Atlanta, Wisconsin, Chicago, Kansas City, Nashville, and Ohio, among others.
Al Cross, Director of the Institute for Rural Journalismsaid: “A governor who’s a public servant 24 hours a day and uses state planes for travel should be willing to tell his paymasters, the taxpayers, the purpose of his travels. Paying for them is not enough. He can use the planes because he’s governor. That’s a privilege with an obligation.”
Associated Press wrote: “Bevin continued to face questions regarding his use of a state-owned plane.”
Louisville Courier Journal’s Phillip Bailey said: “In the private sector if you use the company car doesn’t your employer still have a right to ask where the hell you went? In this case, the employer and owner of the car are the people of #Kentucky. Where did you go, @GovMattBevin?”
Lexington Herald-Leader’s Daniel Desrochers said on KET’s Comment on Kentucky: “The governor's office has never really been very clear or transparent about any of the trips they have made..."
120 Strong said: “When we the taxpayers own the plane, it is our business.”
Louisville Courier Journal’s Joe Gerth addressed Bevin’s Chief of Staff, saying: “Blake, please direct the Kentucky State Police to comply with state open records law and provide requested records within three days of the request being made.”
Marisa McNee, Kentucky Democratic Party spokesperson, said, “Matt Bevin continues to raise more questions and insult Kentuckians every day he refuses to explain why he’s been taking a taxpayer-funded state plane across the country. This governor needs to stop hiding and come clean.”
