Bevin is Attending Fundraiser with Donor Who Demands GOP Politicians Tear Up Health Care Reforms

Kentucky Democratic Party

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Democratic Party is slamming Matt Bevin for kicking off his desperate re-election campaign byjetting off to Texas next week to raise money from out-of-state CEOs.

One particular Texas donor, Doug Deason, has made clear that he will not give money to Republican politicians unless they support ripping up the Affordable Care Act, which would remove protections for people with pre-existing health conditions and take away Medicaid coverage from hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians.

It’s no wonder that he’s supporting Matt Bevin. Bevin’s disastrous record on health care includes supporting measures that would remove protections for people with pre-existing health conditions. He also tried to take Medicaid away from 100,000 Kentuckians and cut dental and vision coverage for half a million Kentuckians.

Insider Louisville’s Joe Sonka described the event as “Texas oil billionaires giving Bevin a helping hand.”

And just yesterday, Americans for Prosperity — a dark money group funded by the Koch brothers — officially endorsed Bevin.

“Immediately jetting off after the primary to raise campaign cash from Texas billionaires is just more proof Bevin knows he’s not strong enough to win his desperate campaign on his own. He has incredibly weak standing in Kentucky and is widely known as the most unpopular governor in the entire country,” said Marisa McNee, spokesperson for the Kentucky Democratic Party. “Bevin’s disastrous health care agenda hurts Kentucky and benefits out-of-state CEOs, so this might actually end up being one event where Bevin doesn’t get booed.”
