KDP Statement on Senator Hornback’s Attack on Kentucky Farmers

The following is a statement from Colmon Elridge, Chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party:

“Within hours of opening the 2021 legislative session Senate Republicans showed their true colors by being dismissive of a project that is bringing 300 jobs to Eastern Kentucky as ‘just growing tomatoes.’ For a region in search of good-paying, quality jobs, a company like AppHarvest is crucial to Eastern Kentucky, especially to Rowan and Madison counties.”

“As a state that has great hunger needs and has prided itself on agriculture feeding Kentucky, this lack of appreciation for the dignity of this work and the need of Kentuckians is pathetic, but unsurprising. Frankfort Republicans continue to look down on anyone who cannot fill their coffers.

“Additionally, removing the governor’s office from agriculture will just hurt Kentucky farmers. Shame on Senator Paul Hornback and the entire Senate GOP for dismissing this project. This is the exact type of political pettiness our commonwealth doesn’t need.”

KDP Statement on Threatening Sign Left After Rally Advocating Harm to Governor Andy Beshear

The following is a statement from Marisa McNee, spokesperson for the Kentucky Democratic Party:

“Enough is enough. Once again, a threat has been made against Governor Andy Beshear by a group of extremists just a short walk from his family residence. And once again, Republican legislators in Frankfort remain silent and refuse to disavow such violent hateful rhetoric.

“It is not enough to just casually distance themselves from these incidents. They must loudly and forcefully condemn these actions and stop using language that incites these types of events. Too many Republican legislators use inflammatory language against Gov. Beshear, and it leads directly to these types of incidents. It’s time for the Kentucky GOP to denounce these extremists, stop taking campaign cash from them and stop using heated rhetoric when it comes to the governor.”
