The following is a statement from Colmon Elridge, Chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party, after both Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue conceded their respective races.
“Congratulations to Senators-elect Warnock and Ossoff for their tireless campaigning and hard fought victories.
“Senator-elect Warnock withstood vicious attacks on him and the Black Church while his opponent campaigned with a white supremacist. Senator-elect Osoff, who once worked for Congressman John Lewis, has broken ground for a new generation to take up the mantle of leadership in one of our nation's most revered institutions. This is an historic moment and the Kentucky Democratic Party sends our congratulations to them, as well as Stacey Abrams and Congresswoman Nikema Williams, chair of the Georgia Democratic Party, who have shown that, once again, Black Women have saved our republic.
“For years Mitch McConnell has emboldened those who seek to divide our nation and more, here at home, he’s claimed to be powerful while delivering little. Under his tenure, jobs have been lost in Eastern and Western Kentucky, and whether it’s clean drinking water in Martin County, or the crumbling Brent Spence bridge, neither he, nor outgoing Transportation Secretary Chao, have used their considerable power to improve our infrastructure. The voters of Georgia understood the stakes and Minority Mitch has received the rebuke the country has been waiting to deliver. McConnell has put his own crass personal pursuit of power above all else for far too long, and it finally caught up with him.”
“I extend our congratulations to Congressman John Yarmuth, Chair of the House Budget Committee, for becoming the most powerful Kentuckian in Washington D.C. For years, for many across the Commonwealth, Congressman Yarmuth has been “Kentucky’s Congressman” and I have no doubt that he will continue to fight for all Kentuckians, regardless of party affiliation.”
