KDP Recognizes Medicaid Awareness Month as GOP Threatens Nearly 1.5 Million Enrolled Kentuckians

KENTUCKY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement on Medicaid Awareness Month, which comes as Kentucky GOP Congressman Brett Guthrie prepares to spearhead a budget that cuts $880 billion from the program, stripping critical health care away from nearly 1.5 million enrolled Kentuckians, nearly half of whom are children:
“President Trump is jeopardizing health care for 80 million Americans. His administration killed the office that determines who’s eligible for Medicaid, and his budget calls on Congressman Guthrie’s committee to cut $880 billion in health care benefits, which will deliver death sentences to his constituents and close the hospitals that would otherwise keep them healthy. Kentucky health care facilities get about a quarter of their funding from Medicaid. Rural hospitals will be the first to close if Guthrie enables Trump’s destructive path to cut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. When a third of Kentuckians can no longer afford to see a doctor or pay for prescriptions, they’ll have solely Guthrie to blame.”
