The following is a statement from Ben Self, Kentucky Democratic Party Chair, on Andy Beshear and Jaqueline Coleman’s win in the 2019 Gubernatorial Primary:

“Congratulations to Attorney General Andy Beshear and his running mate Jaqueline Coleman on their success in the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary.

“Attorney General Beshear has defended Kentuckians against Republican Governor Matt Bevin’s cuts to higher education, closed-door deals to take public pensions, and continued attacks on working families. I know Andy Beshear well, and I know he has the vision and experience to lead the Commonwealth of Kentucky and make government work for all of us. As Governor I have no doubt he will continue his work on behalf of all Kentuckians.

“The Kentucky Democratic Party is united in our efforts to support Beshear/Coleman and beat Governor Matt Bevin in November.”

The following is a statement from Self on the other Democratic nominees:

“Congratulations to all the Democratic nominees elected to represent the Kentucky Democratic Party this November on the ballot for Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, and Agricultural Commissioner.

“Attorney General Democratic nominee Greg Stumbo has the experience, leadership, and vision to hit the ground running on day one. Stumbo has a strong record of holding the powerful accountable, protecting children, and standing up for Kentucky’s families.”

“Secretary of State Democratic nominee Heather French Henry heads into the General Election as the clear favorite. She is well-known to Kentuckians already and has a strong record from her work as deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs. As secretary of state, Henry will bring her leadership experience and reputation for working across the aisle to protect Kentucky’s voters and make voting easier and more accessible.”

"State Auditor Democratic nominee Sheri Donahuehas 20 years of experience auditing multi-million dollar weapons systems projects and managed classified intelligence contracts for the U.S. Navy. Donahue has the vision and determination to return the Auditor’s office to be the proactive, effective watchdog for Kentuckians’ taxpayer dollars that it is meant to be. Kentuckians are ready for a change from Auditor Mike Harmon, who has allowed Governor Matt Bevin to go unchecked for years.”

“State Treasurer Democratic nominee Michael Bowman served as a legislative assistant for the Louisville Metro Council for seven years and is now a bank officer and branch manager for US Bank, where he manages a multi-million dollar financial portfolio. Bowman is prepared to bring back accountability, trust, and transparency to this critical office.”

“Agriculture Commissioner Democratic nominee Robert Haley Conway is an eighth generation farmer and has served on the Scott County Board of Education. Conway wants to make small farms a priority and has the experience and vision to move Kentucky agriculture forward. Unlike GOP Incumbent Ryan Quarles, Conway won’t be a rubber stamp for the corporate policies pushed by the McConnell machine."
