KENTUCKY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Frankfort, Ky. - This week, as Daniel Cameron has been traveling around eastern Kentucky, he neglected to mention that he selected a running mate with a track record of making it harder for miners to access black lung benefits. Not only did Robby Mills vote for HB 2, but he sponsored the legislation.

Governor Andy Beshear has a record of consistently standing up for coal miners and their hard-earned benefits after years of service to their industry, this nation and their communities by powering our economy. Unlike Cameron and Mills, Governor Beshear always has coal miners’ backs.

United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) International President Cecil E. Roberts issued the following statement:

"We stand with Governor Andy Beshear, not only due to his consistent backing of the mining industries and its current workers, but also for the retirees who devoted decades of their lives to supplying our nation with coal.

“Many of these coal miners face daily battles with coal worker's pneumoconiosis or black lung disease, which is an always fatal occupational disease caused when coal operators fail to follow the law. Unlike his opponent and his opponent’s running mate, Gov. Beshear stands on the side of workers and is a staunch advocate for ensuring these miners receive the full benefits and care they rightfully deserve.

“Andy Beshear has always been a champion for the Kentucky coal miner, which is why we wholeheartedly endorsed his re-election. The United Mine Workers of America stands with those who stand with us."
