Frankfort, KY — The Kentucky Democratic Party is calling on U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell to remove inflammatory and violent imagery from his campaign Twitter account.

Just hours after the country learned about the mass shootings in El Paso, the Team Mitch Twitter account posted an image depicting the headstones of current Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes and U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath.

The image has drawn rebuke and calls for removal. It has been nearly 48 hours and the image has not been removed. Despite a weekend of horrifying violence, the imagery is still on the senator’s account as of 2 p.m. Monday

“Thoughts and prayers for the victims posted from Mitch ring awfully hollow when his campaign team is simultaneously posting violent imagery depicting the death of his political opponents. It’s disgusting,” said Marisa McNee, spokesperson for the Kentucky Democratic Party. “Senator McConnell should take responsibility for this and direct his campaign to remove the image immediately.”
