KY 120 United AFT outlines its agenda for GA session
KY 120 United AFT is a union of professionals that advocates for a high-quality public education along with delivering quality public services that will allow for our Commonwealth to grow and thrive. We are committed to advancing these principles through community engagement, organizing, collective bargaining, and political activism, and especially through the work our members do. Together we are stronger, and every voice matters.
As the 2022 KY Kentucky General Assembly is set to begin on Jan. 4, we will focus our legislative agenda to the following areas:
Support increased funding for public schools and oppose all legislation that subsidizes charter schools or expands private schools tax credits, scholarships, or vouchers through public funds.
Advocate for maintaining current pension benefits for current and future employees and oppose any reforms that would reduce any benefits.
Protect access to high quality and cost-effective health care for all state employees, both retired and active.
Support returning the retirement income tax exemption back to its former level of $41,000.
Advocate for minimum cost-of-living wage increases for public school employees and all public state employees.
Support flexibility for districts to use virtual and NTI learning according to local COVID infection levels and effects on staffing and students.
Protect teachers’ academic freedom including opposing BR 60 and BR 69.
Protect the current roles and responsibilities of local Site Based Decision Making Councils including selection of principal.
Support funding for state-wide pre-K and full day kindergarten.
Protect public schools’ ability to inquire about student and employee vaccination status.
