The labor movement continues to lead the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to fight for economic opportunity and social justice for America’s workers. You can look at your inbox for this Daily Brief from the AFL-CIO.

Statement from President Richard Trumka

For years now, union members have heard cheap talk about infrastructure projects that never happened. We’re done talking, and we’re ready to start building! But as we rebuild our roads, bridges and transportation systems, we also must rebuild with union labor and union steel. That means creating jobs that pay a union wage and allow millions the freedom to form a union. The PRO Act is how we do that. This legislation is a top priority for America’s labor movement, and it must be a priority for this administration.

Labor Leaders Meet with Biden, Harris

This afternoon, leaders of the labor movement gathered at the White House to meet with President Biden and Vice President Harris about our shared goal of revitalizing America’s infrastructure. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka (UMWA) led the delegation of labor leaders that included AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler (IBEW); North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey (IUPAT); Laborers (LIUNA) General President Terry O’Sullivan; Operating Engineers (IUOE) General President James Callahan; Electrical Workers (IBEW) International President Lonnie Stephenson; Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) General President Kenneth Rigmaiden; United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) General President Mark McManus; Ironworkers General President Eric Dean; and Machinists (IAM) International President Robert Martinez Jr. At the meeting, Trumka told Biden, “It’s not just lip service when you call yourself a ‘union guy.’ And that’s why we know—and you know—that we must build back better with unions.”
