From Liles Taylor: Important primary election information

Please find the link below to a timeline for the KY June Primary election, which is to be held on June 23rd.

There are a couple important dates to watch:

The first is the establishment of the online portal for voters to request an absentee ballot. This will be established by May 22nd. I will send that link out as soon as it is made available.

The second date is June 8th. That is the deadline for County Clerks to begin to allow in-person absentee voting, but please also note that your members may call now to schedule a time that they can go to their County Clerk’s office and cast an in-person absentee ballot when they are made available. This is important to do, as more people than usual will be voting in-person absentee than normal, and it may take longer than usual to cast those ballots as the State Board of Elections seeks to implement social distancing measures to protect voters and election workers.

Also remember that there may be a lot of confusion amongst our members around voter identification requirements with the recent passage of a photo ID law, regionally issued REAL ID laws being implemented for the federal deadline of this fall for airport travel (which require additional forms of identification to be issued), and the extension of the dates for the expiration of existing licenses.

Please email me at ltaylor@kyaflcio.org if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Liles
