FRANKFORT — Gov. Matt Bevin's pension bill rolled through a friendly committee Tuesday morning and is now teed up for final passage on Wednesday.

The Senate State and Local Government Committee approved the bill intended to give relief from soaring pension costs to regional universities and scores of smaller quasi-governmental groups on a party-line vote of 8-3, with all Republicans voting yes and all Democrats voting no.

The vote occurred on the fourth day of a special legislative session in which minority Democrats argued the bill will rob many employees of affected groups of the pensions they've been counting on.
