FRANKFORT — A majority of Republican lawmakers in the House want to scale back unemployment insurance benefits for Kentuckians.

As it stands, House Bill 4 would significantly reduce the number of weeks out-of-work residents would be eligible for unemployment insurance. It would also increase job search requirements.

The fate of the bill now lies in the hands of the state Senate.
