Louisville Courier-Journal: Louisville legislators to introduce 3 police reform bills Monday in Frankfort

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thousands marched in the streets of Louisville this summer pushing for police reform. Now, two Democratic legislators from Jefferson County want to make sure those voices are heard in Frankfort.

Rep. Lisa Willner announced Sunday she plans to file three bills intended to protect protesters and alter police response to demonstrations. The bills, cosponsored by Rep. Attica Scott, will be filed Monday when Kentucky's 2021 legislative session continues.

"These bills were developed out of hearing the direct firsthand experiences of people affected by police violence, police excessive use of force, with no accountability to those police officers," Willner said at a Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression press conference. "I've been around a long time. I'm not a child. I'm not a kid. But some of the stories that I heard shocked me."
