LEXINGTON, Ky. -  Kentucky state Rep. Charles Booker and Congressman John Yarmuth endorsed retired Marine Lt. Col. Amy McGrath in the U.S. Senate race against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“I am honored to have the endorsements of these two great leaders, who have each dedicated their careers to improving the lives of everyday Kentuckians,” McGrath said. “It is going to take all of us working together to retire Mitch McConnell in November, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Rep. Booker and Congressman Yarmuth fighting beside me to do just that.”

McGrath said Yarmuth’s integrity and commitment to Kentucky exemplify the qualities we need in leaders.

“Congressman Yarmuth has fought tirelessly to make health care more affordable and accessible, to better our education systems for Kentucky’s kids, and to get rid of dark money in politics and restore integrity in government,” she said. “I look forward to the day I can work with him in Congress to continue the work he has done for our state.”

“There could be no clearer choice in this election,” Yarmuth said in his endorsement announcement. “Amy McGrath believes government can be effective in making the lives of all Americans better. Mitch McConnell has spent 36 years in the Senate resisting those efforts. Even today, nearly 400 House-passed bills are sitting on Mitch’s desk that he won’t bring up for Senate action.”

Booker said a vote for McGrath gives Kentucky and the country a chance to push for meaningful change.

“We all need to do everything we can to make sure she wins this race, not because that’s the end of our movement’s work but because it will give us a battlefield where we have a fighting chance to enact progressive policy, instead of a sworn enemy,” Booker said.

McGrath said she admires Booker’s leadership and the energy he has built in the ongoing movement for racial and economic justice and health care for all.

“I look forward to working with Charles toward our shared goal of bringing long-awaited progress to the people of Kentucky,” McGrath said.
