The Misadventures of Moscow Mitch: KDP: Another McConnell Ad. Another “COVID Truther”

Frankfort, KY — On Thursday, Mitch McConnell released another attack ad against Amy McGrath, and once again the ad featured a supporter with a history of being dismissive of the dangers of the Coronavirus.
McConnell’s latest ad features Anna Roberts-Smith, an at-large member of the Republican Party of Kentucky’s executive committee. She’s also a frequent donor to the RPK, and many may remember her for her starring role in attacks ads against Amy McGrath in 2018 in support of Congressman Andy Barr.
And until a few days ago, Roberts-Smith used her social media accounts to consistently dismiss the coronavirus, including its effects on children.
In multiple posts on Facebook and her now-deleted Twitter account, Roberts-Smith pushed for the reopening of schools, downplayed the seriousness of older Americans who die of COVID-19, and demanded Governor Beshear be “held accountable” for delaying school openings.
Roberts-Smith also criticized Gov. Andy Beshear, questions the flattening of the curve and directly contradicts McConnell on wearing masks.
This is the second time McConnell has used someone in his ads that questions the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the use of masks.
In a statement, Kentucky Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa McNee said McConnell can’t keep having it both ways when it comes to the pandemic.
