Kentucky's First Couple is expected to join a special spring rite at the Capitol on March 23.

Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear will help Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month (April) with the organization's annual pinwheel planting.

The program begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda. Everybody will then move to the front lawn for the planting of 2,500 shiny blue and silver pinwheels.

"We are honored to have Gov. Andy Beshear, First Lady Britainy Beshear and other dignitaries join us for this event," said Jill Seyfred, PCAK executive director. "Everyone is welcome to join us to help kick-off Child Abuse Prevention Month."

The event will be held rain or shine, according to Seyfred, who is based in Lexington. She thanked WellCare Health Plans for providing money for mini-grants to 20 communities to help PCAK plan similar events throughout the state.

Seyfred said the governor and Labor Secretary Larry Roberts are former PCAK board members. State AFL-CIO President Bill Londrigan and Teamsters Local 783 President John Stovall are current board members, she added.

“We appreciate the ongoing commitment from organized labor who, for more than 25 years, have consistently supported our statewide child abuse prevention efforts," Seyfred said. "Bill Londrigan and John Stovall are front-and-center with our work and I know our outreach to families has been strengthened as a result of their involvement.”
