Mae Suramek says she's proud to be endorsed by the Kentucky State AFL-CIO, which she describes as "a community of more than 200,000 Kentuckians - from auto workers to teachers, electricians to firefighters."

Suramek is facing Republican Timothy Truitt in the Nov. 2 special election to fill out the unexpired term of 89th District State Rep. Robert Goforth, a Republican.

The district encompasses Madison (part), Jackson and Laurel (part) counties.

"Suramek currently serves on the board of the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED) and is the founder and owner of Noodle Nirvana, a socially-conscious restaurant in Berea," according to WYMT.

Suramek is one of three Democrats who won the state AFL-CIO nod in a trio of special elections. The others are:

SD 22 – Helen Bukulmez – Fayette (part), Jessamine, Garrard, Mercer and Washington Counties

HD 51 – Eddie Rogers -- Taylor and Adair counties
