Anderson reaches contract agreement with IBEW

The Anderson Board of Public Works has approved a four-year contract with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. IBEW Local 281 represents employees with Anderson Municipal Light & Power and the city garage.


 

Workers at America’s Test Kitchen vote to join union

A majority of workers at America’s Test Kitchen have voted to unionize, joining the Communications Workers of America. The employees, now members of ATK United (CWA Local 1400), will begin bargaining for a contract with the Boston-based media company that for almost 30 years has produced food-related magazines, books, and TV shows. The new union unit includes editors, test cooks, and producers for the company’s video, TV, and podcast content.


 

Workers at San Diego hotel walk off the job as Comic-Con returns

Hilton San Diego Bayfront workers began striking early Wednesday, hours before Comic-Con was set to begin at the San Diego Convention Center — just steps away from the 1,190-room hotel. Daylong talks stalled late Tuesday when negotiators for both sides were unable to reach an agreement on pay and other work-related issues. Leaders of Unite Here Local 30, which represents hotel workers throughout San Diego County, said they reached an impasse with the hotel after 13 hours of talks that ended at 10 p.m. Tuesday.,

Kellogg Workers at Ohio MorningStar Plant Seek to Unionize

The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco, and Grain Millers International Union, known as the BCTGM, filed a petition for representation with the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of workers at the plant on Tuesday. The facility, located in Zanesville, Ohio, makes faux meat products under Kellogg’s MorningStar Farms label.

CEOs average pay in 2021 was 324 times higher than employees: report

CEOs of the top 500 companies in the U.S. earned 324 times more money in 2021 than their employees, with executive compensation climbing $2.8 million dollars in the past year on average as worker wages declined, according to an AFL-CIO report. While the report found that real worker wages fell 2.4 percent in 2021 after adjusting for inflation, the average compensation for the top CEOs in the nation last year was $18.3 million, a more than $5 million increase over the past decade.
