United Airlines reaches tentative labor agreements with ground workers union

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said the two-year tentative agreements cover “industry-best” wage rates, as well as job protection and certain guards against outsourcing roles. The specific terms of the contracts were not disclosed.


 

San Antonio Philharmonic musicians reach 'bridge' union contract, new orchestra’s first

The contract is the first agreement musicians with the San Antonio Philharmonic have had since the 9-month strike and bankruptcy of the San Antonio Symphony last year. The Philharmonic, which was created in the aftermath of the Symphony’s dissolution and the purchase of its bankruptcy assets, is nearing the end of its first season in May, and musicians have worked without a contract through the season. The recently ratified contract will begin on July 1 and run through the end of Philharmonic’s next season. Both Richard Oppenheim, the president of the American Federation of Musicians Local 23, and Philharmonic President Brian Petkovich said the contract was unique among orchestral collective bargaining agreements because the Philharmonic is still getting its footing as a new organization.


 

Union Workers at Hispanic Society Begin Strike Over Stalled Contract Negotiations

On Monday, staff of the Hispanic Society h and Library began striking after negotiations between their union representatives at UAW Local 2110 and the Hispanic Society’s leadership crumbled after a tumultuous year of negotiations. The strike was provoked by the museum leadership’s offer of a contract that removed healthcare coverage and pension fees that were once covered, without an increase in wage to offset the new expenses. According to the union, workers already accepted a wage lower than that of comparable institutions explicitly because benefits were included as part of their employment contract. 


 

Machinists Union hold strike sanction vote ahead of Spirit contract talks

Voting is underway at Hartman Arena for Spirit Aerosystems machinist union members.They’re voting on strike sanctioning. It’s not a vote to strike, but it allows workers to strike in June if contract negotiations can’t be reached with Spirit. “Spirit understands that the strike sanction vote is part of the IAM’s internal process. This vote does not mean a strike will occur. We are committed to open-and-honest discussions with the goal of a fair, competitive contract for our employees and the company to position us for success over the long term,” said Spirit.


 

MLB, union reach historic collective bargaining agreement for minor league players

Baseball minor leaguers reached a historic initial collective bargaining agreement with Major League Baseball on Wednesday, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because details were not announced. As part of the five-year deal, MLB agreed during the contract not to reduce minor league affiliates from the current 120.


 

Frederick County Reaches New Agreement With Fire Fighters

here’s a new contract between Frederick County and the International Association of Fire Fighters. County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and IAFF Local 3666 President, Stephan Jones, signed the two-year agreement on Wednesday. “I want to thank the members of our bargaining team for their work throughout this process,” says County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, in a statement. “I appreciate that the parties came to the negotiating table in good faith. The agreement signed today shows that process established by the County Council in 2020 works.”


 

MarinHealth nurses ratify new three-year contract

Registered nurses at MarinHealth Medical Center voted to ratify a new three-year contract this week.“Ninety-five percent of the nurses voted to approve the contract; the nurses are very happy,” said Lynn Warner, a 17-year nurse at the hospital and the nurses’ chief representative on the bargaining team. “Through the solidarity of nurses, we were able to secure one of the strongest contracts we’ve had in years,” said Kathleen Sickert, a nurse in the emergency unit at MarinHealth, in a statement. The hospital’s 600 nurses are represented by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United.


 

MLBPA and Major League Baseball agree on CBA for minor league players, per report

Major League Baseball and the minor-league players in the MLB Players Association have reached an agreement on a Collective Bargaining Agreement, the first in history that will apply to minor-league players, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The CBA will have a five-year duration, as is the usual for CBA in the world of baseball, and will at least double pay at all levels.

Specifically, the National Domestic Workers Alliance’s Philadelphia chapter, Unite Here Local 274 and AFL-CIO Philadelphia Council requested another $1.2 million for the Office of Worker Protections, which would include $1 million for seven additional staff members and $200,000 for the office’s Community Outreach and Education Fund. AFL-CIO Philadelphia Council had also sent a letter earlier this month that included a request for $350,000 for the department’s Labor Relations and Employee Relations staff.
