Temple to begin contract negotiations with faculty union TAUP

Temple University representatives will begin to negotiate a new contract with the Temple Association of University Professionals (TAUP) this week. The faculty union’s current agreement will end Oct. 15. Temple previously offered an 18-month month extension to the current agreement, but TAUP declined the university’s offer. The extension proposed by Temple would have provided TAUP members with guaranteed salary increases starting July 1 and kept benefits steady.


 

Bath Iron Works reaches tentative agreement on union contract

Bath Iron Works has reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with members of its largest union. The agreement with the Machinists' Union Local S6 calls for pay raises of more than five-percent in the first year. Wages would increase across the board by another five percent in the second year, and another four-percent in the third.


 

Art Institute of Chicago Workers Ratify Union Contract

Today, August 15, marks a major win for over 500 unionized employees who voted to ratify the first union contract with the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). After 14 months of negotiations, Art Institute of Chicago Workers United (AICWU) secured increased wages across the board as well as additional healthcare benefits and professional development resources — a source of encouragement for hundreds of other unionized Chicago art workers who were mobilized by the AIC and SAIC employees.


 

NYT union staffers brief WaPo union as it considers a walkout

Members of the New York Times' union on Monday evening briefed several dozen staffers from The Washington Post union about best practices they learned from The Times' union’s walkout last December, three sources familiar with the meeting told Axios. The Washington Post Guild, which is part of the Baltimore-Washington NewsGuild, represents more than 1,000 employees of the Washington Post, according to its website.


 

St. Louis Station Reaches Agreement with Union, Ends Months-Long Boycott

St. Louis NBC affiliate KSDK has reached an agreement with IBEW Local 4, ending a months-long boycott by the union. The new three-year agreement with the station includes raises, new hires into the bargaining unit and a guarantee to hire union workers to replace retirees. The Labor Tribune said members ratified the agreement on July 29. Local 4 represents St. Louis television and radio workers not only at KSDK, but all other stations as well as video production studios and remote sports and entertainment productions in the St. Louis market.


 

Employees at the Art Institute of Chicago museum and school ratify their first union contract

After more than a year of negotiations, unionised workers at the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) have ratified their first contract. The new agreement gives the more than 500 union members salary increases of at least 12.25% and up to 16.25%, with lower-paid employees receiving larger pay bumps. It also immediately raises the required minimum wage to $17 an hour and includes provisions for career support and affordable health care.


 

Marvel VFX Workers Move Toward Unionization; Vote Set for Next Week

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Disney/Marvel have reached a stipulated election agreement, allowing Marvel’s in-house visual effects workers to vote on whether they wish to unionize, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. An election date of Aug. 21 has been set and workers will need to return their ballots by a Sept. 11 deadline. Ballots would be tallied by a third party, and if the vote passes, the union would be certified, IATSE organizer Mark Patch tells THR.


 

USW union reaches agreement with NewRange Copper Nickel

The United Steelworkers (USW) have reached an agreement with a northern Minnesota mining company. On Tuesday, the union announced a Memorandum of Cooperation with NewRange Copper Nickel LLC as they look to mine a variety of critical materials in the Hoyt Lakes area. USW District 11 Director Emil Ramirez, who represents workers in Minnesota and eight other states, said that it is essential that new mines continue the tradition of providing good, community-sustaining jobs.


 

SAG-AFTRA “Remains Very Eager” To Return To Bargaining Table With AMPTP

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director and chief negotiator, said today that “we remain very eager to get back to the table with the AMPTP, as we’ve said every day” since the actors’ strike began 33 days ago. In a virtual press conference with reporters about the guild’s interim agreements, Crabtree-Ireland said, “We have been ready, willing and able to continue bargaining with them and we very much want the AMPTP to come back to the table.”
