Strikes end at 2 of 3 Detroit casinos after new contract ratified

Strikes ended Sunday night at two of the three Detroit casinos after workers there voted to ratify new labor agreements. The Detroit Casino Council said the strikes concluded at 9 p.m. at MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown following successful ratification votes by union members of the new five-year contract agreements.


 

Wells Fargo employees at two branches mount unionization campaign

Wells Fargo (WFC.N) employees at two of the bank's branches filed for union elections on Monday, laying the groundwork for potential unionization in an industry that has largely been immune to such labor campaigns. In a petition to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), bankers and tellers at Wells Fargo branches in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Bethel, Alaska declared their intent to join the Communications Workers of America's Wells Fargo Workers United (WFWU). 


 

Eastern Music Festival To Enter into Collective Bargaining Negotiations with American Federation of Musicians, Local 342

A majority of employees in a “bargaining unit” employed by Eastern Music Festival, Inc. have voted to recognize a labor union, specifically Local 342 of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), as their representative with respect to their employment by EMF.


 

Striking Coffin Butte mechanics resume work, concerns remain unresolved

Two months after a group of mechanics began striking in front of the Coffin Butte Landfill on Sept. 11, the seven-man unit has returned to work. On Monday, Nov. 13, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 701 notified Valley Landfills Inc. of the mechanics' unconditional return to work, according to spokesperson Aurora Biggers. "By extending an unconditional return to work offer, IUOE 701 forced the company to remove scab workers and get our members back to work," Biggers said in a statement.


 

Las Vegas Culinary Union members ratify new 5-year contract with Ceasars Entertainment

“We won’t back down, and we’ll fight for employees who are wronged.” With that emphasis, UFCW Local 655 President David Cook announced an “historic,” unprecedented settlement of Unfair Labor Practice charges against Shangri-La cannabis dispensary here where the union was organizing its employees and the company engaged in egregious anti-union tactics that included firing 10 workers without cause and as Cook put it, “engaging in manipulation and intimidation.”

Community food drive in Rapid City collects nearly 1,700 pounds of food

A community food drive held in Rapid City by the City’s Public Works Department and AFSCME Union was a resounding success, collecting nearly 1,700 pounds of non-perishable food items and more than $900 in cash. The food drive, which ran from November 1 to the early morning of November 6, collected more than four times the amount of food and raised nearly four times the amount of cash as the inaugural food drive held last year.
