In a press release announcing the AFL-CIO’s unanimous endorsement of Harris, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler said in a statement, “From day one, Vice President Kamala Harris has been a true partner in leading the most pro-labor administration in history. Former President Bill Clinton was in Charlotte on Sunday to campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris. The former president attended a Charlotte church service and encourage worshipers to cast their ballot for Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The union representing more than 5,000 faculty and coaches across Pennsylvania’s 10 state-owned universities is the latest to affiliate with AFT, a nationwide union of education and other workers. Members of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties approved the affiliation in a three-day election last week. It begins Jan. 1.

Boeing workers vote to accept contract proposal, ending strike

Striking Boeing machinists have ended their nearly two-month walkout, voting to accept a four-year deal that locks in historic gains in wages and benefits that are substantially higher than the company offered before the strike began. Leaders of the 33,000-member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Districts 751 and W24 hailed the agreement, which includes a guarantee that Boeing’s next new airplane will be built in the Seattle area. More than 26,000 union members voted Monday, with 59 percent voting to accept the deal, union district president Jon Holden said at the vote announcement in Seattle. His announcement was met with some cheers and some loud boos in the hall.

The Boeing strike is over after 53 days. Machinists union members voted Monday to approve the company’s most recent contract offer, enabling Boeing to restart work at assembly plants in Everett and Renton and at parts plants throughout the region. Results announced late Monday showed the offer was approved with 59% of ballots cast in favor. “This is a victory, we can hold our heads high,” said Jon Holden, president of the striking Machinists union local. “We all stood strong, and we achieved something that we hadn’t achieved the last 22 years.”

Striking workers at embattled plane maker Boeing voted Monday to accept the company’s most recent offer, ending the costliest strike in the United States in more than 25 years. The International Association of Machinists (IAM) said rank-and-file members voted by 59% to approve the deal. IAM members had voted almost unanimously against Boeing’s first offer on the eve of the start of the strike, and then 64% voted against the second offer less than two weeks ago, extending the strike.

 

New York Times Tech Guild goes on strike

The New York Times Tech Guild walked off the job at 12:01 a.m. Monday, making good on a threat that has loomed over the company for months and could disrupt the newspaper’s ability to cover this week’s election results. The Tech Guild called the open-ended unfair labor practice strike after increasingly intense negotiations between the guild and Times management failed to yield a contract agreement, Tech Guild representatives told The Washington Post.

Hundreds of tech workers went on strike early Monday morning at The New York Times, threatening to push their work stoppage into Election Day if they don’t see progress on a collective bargaining agreement. The walkout could disrupt what should be a monster traffic day for the paper of record on Tuesday, when all news organizations want their products running smoothly for readers. The tech workers on strike include the many engineers who handle website and app glitches in real time as polls close and viewership surges.


 

Fort Wayne GM union votes to authorize a strike ahead of negotiations

Union leaders at the General Motors Fort Wayne Assembly plant said the company violated its contract with the United Auto Workers. UAW workers at the plant voted to authorize a strike ahead of negotiations expected in the next week. Rich LeTourneau, UAW Local 2209 bargaining chairman, said GM has managers on the assembly line in place of union workers – and he said that violates the contract. LeTourneau said GM refuses to fill the open jobs at the plant.


 

Baltimore Sun Union Launches Week-Long Byline Strike

The Baltimore Sun Guild, which represents employees of the Baltimore Sun, has launched a byline strike from November 3 to November 10 – a period that includes election day.  Under the strike, union members will withhold their bylines from articles published in the newspaper. The union announces the byline strike on X. The action is the latest sign of labor discontent since Sinclair Broadcasting Group Executive Chairman David D. Smith bought the newspaper in January.

Dating App Grindr Accused Of Illegal Union-Busting

A spokesperson for the National Labor Relations Board said the agency’s general counsel filed the charges Friday, alleging Grindr used the mandate to force out employees because they had “joined the union and engaged in concerted activities.” The NLRB is responsible for investigating union-busting claims and overseeing union elections. The complaint also accuses Grindr of presenting workers with an unlawful severance agreement and refusing to bargain with the workers’ union, the Communications Workers of America.
