What: "What Happens When Doctors Say 'No': The Story of One Doctor in Bloomington, Indiana Who Refused to Join an ACO REACH"

When: Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 5 PM Pacific/8 PM Eastern

Who: Dr. Rob Stone (Associate Director of IU Health Bloomington Hospice and Medical Director of the Palliative Care program) and Dr. Andy Coates (Past President of Physicians for a National Health Program and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at Albany Medical College).

Background: Hear Dr. Rob Stone, a physician in Bloomington, Indiana, discuss what happened when he found out his practice will be joining an ACO REACH. Do physicians have agency when it comes to being "joined" to a for-profit, capitated program with financial incentives to delay and deny care? To whom is a physician beholden: the corporation or the patient? Can doctors really say "no"? And what happens when they do?

What can the community and the medical profession do to support doctors who take a stand against privatization of health care? Dr. Andy Coates, a physician and former union leader in Albany, New York, responds.

Want to learn more about ACO REACH? We wrote about it for Truthout last month.

All attendees must register in advance. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
